This land is… changing

US Census Information (2010)

Take a good look the census results in 2010 (click to enlarge). If you are black and white in America, the country is and will continue to look very different. Blacks and whites are not growing population-wise. Astoundingly, whites experienced less than six percentage points in population increase from the years 2000-2010. Nationally, every other race is exploding. Hispanics, Pacific Islanders/Hawaiins, Asians and those of two or more races grew by at least 30 percentage points in the last decade. What I can’t believe is that in my home state, the white population fell by a full percentage point while Hispanics grew by 116 points. Well… they do call Bethesda, MD Little Mexico.

This census is just ridiculous to me. America is going through some serious changes and you can see why a lot of people in this country are uneasy. A lot of people who have typically been minorities in US history are growing at unprecedented rates while blacks and whites stay on par.

After looking at these astonishing results, it’s easy to see why there is a push for voter restriction legislation, immigration reform and religious intolerance. The country is changing and it’s changing fast. I know they said by 2050 the Hispanic population will be a majority, but I needed the evidence to support that claim.

These results mean everything! This changes politics, our relationships, our potential lovers and family members, religion and spirituality. But it doesn’t change the fact that this is still America. This is one reason why America is an exceptional country. We are a welcoming country, especially to those who want to escape brutal regimes and governments. The census supports this idea. It’s exciting to see how this amazing country will continue to evolve.
